Frequently Asked Questions

What is personality?

Personality can be defined as the unique set of characteristics, traits, behaviors, and patterns of thought that describes the way we think, feel and behave – in short, it is what makes us unique. We are complex and research suggests that both nature (genetics) and nurture (environmental, upbringing, education, culture and life experiences) play a role in shaping and defining our personalities.    Our personality influences how we interact with the world around us and can affect our relationships, work, and overall life experiences.

What does faceCODE do?

Human behavior is multifaceted and after years of research and development, faceCODE is an AI application that decodes core personality traits based on facial phenotypes which are the observable characteristics resulting from the expression of our genes, and maps these to predicted behaviors. These characteristics influence our social interactions, how we learn and how we respond to our environment. Together, these aspects play a role in every part of our life, from friendships to careers to hobbies. By raising our self-awareness, we may improve our confidence, self-esteem and authenticity for better interactions and outcomes with family, friends and colleagues.

How is Personality Decoding from a Selfie/ Photo Possible?

The scientific journey to apply genetics to the decoding of personality traits has taken many decades. There are three critical scientific developments that have made this revolutionary AI possible.

PHENOTYPING:  Scientists, and especially forensic researchers have now perfected our ability to sketch a very accurate picture from any human based on DNA.

PSYCHOGENTICS: Gene experts can make strikingly precise descriptions of core personality traits based on our DNA.

PERSONALITY AI: Finally, by combining the science of phenotyping and psychogenetics, faceCODE can decode personality from facial markers on a photo.

What your Report says about you?

When reading your FaceCODE report you may validate things you already know about yourself and you may gain some insights into unrealized potential. You may disagree with some elements of the report but this may be the most valuable information you can get about yourself. There may be valid traits that you don’t recognize, traits that events of your life have caused you to “rewire” in order to manage your situation.

When reading your report it is also important to remember that no one quality is more important than another. Each aspect of who you are can prove to be a strength depending on what situation you find yourself in at any given time. This report is not a judgment of who you are; it is simply an aid to guide you towards a better sense of self-awareness to allow you to recognize your strengths and possible areas for development in the near future.

What are the Big Five Factors of Personality?

The Big Five factors of personality: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism is the most widely accepted theory of personality today.  Each of the Big Five personality traits represents extremely broad categories which cover many personality-related terms. Each trait encompasses a multitude of other facets.

An important aspect of the Big Five Model is its approach to measuring personality. It focuses on conceptualizing traits as a spectrum rather than black-and-white categories. It recognizes that most individuals are not on the polar ends of the spectrum but rather somewhere in between.

The Big Five model of personality is widely considered to be the most robust way to describe personality differences. It is the basis of most modern personality research and provides an in-depth assessment of your personality across 5 broad dimensions and 30 personality traits.  From how you relate to others, to how you respond to stress.  This inventory tells you everything you need to know about what makes you, you.   FaceCODE correlates our proprietary analytics to Big Five.

Does Genetics or the Environment shape our personality?

Genetics and environment both play a role in shaping personality.  It is generally believed that genetics provide the foundation for personality, while environment shapes its expression. Both nature and nurture factors interact in complex ways to influence personality, and researchers continue to study the ways in which these factors contribute to individual differences in personality. FaceCODE works to identify your genetic or natural traits and correlates them to predicted behaviors of Big Five.

What are genetic or nature traits?

Genetic or nature traits refer to the aspects of personality that are determined by an individual’s genetic makeup, such as temperament, emotional reactivity, and predispositions towards certain behaviors or attitudes. These traits are largely innate and are believed to be shaped by an individual’s genetic code, which determines how the brain develops and processes information.

What are nurture or environment (life experiences) traits?

Nurture or life experience traits, refer to the aspects of personality that are shaped by an individual’s environment and life experiences. These traits can include learned behaviors, values, beliefs, and attitudes that are acquired through socialization, education, and other life experiences. For example, a person’s upbringing, culture, and life experiences can influence their communication style, worldview, and attitudes towards others.

Can Personality Be Changed?

Personality is a complex aspect of an individual.  Research has found that a relatively small number of personality traits can account for most of the ways in which people differ from one another. Thus, they are related to a wide range of important life outcomes. These traits are also relatively stable, but changeable.  Change is hard and only those who truly aspire to understand themselves and are self-critical, ambitious, and have enough grit stand a real chance of reinventing themselves.  Changing your personality is a gradual process that requires time and effort. It’s also important to approach the process with self-compassion and avoid self-criticism, as this can impede your progress.

Seek professional help: If you are struggling to change your personality on your own, consider seeking help from a mental health professional. They can provide guidance and support as you work to modify your personality traits.

Do Identical Twins share the same Personality?

Twins have very similar DNA, but they are not exactly alike. Each twin has his or her own personality, talents, likes, and dislikes.  In addition to personality differences, twins can have slight genetic differences, different personalities, and can even grow to a significantly different height or weight as the “nurture” part of life takes over. While the similarities far outweigh the differences, with everything from personality to appearance, it is still accurate to say that twins do not share all traits and features. Each twin is an individual with a unique bond to their womb mate.  FaceCODE based on image quality and other factors can detect these similarities and uniqueness of the phenotype markers.

What effect does cosmetic surgery have on personality and this report?

Cosmetic surgery is a personal decision that individuals make to change their physical appearance for various reasons, such as enhancing their self-esteem or correcting a physical feature that they are unhappy with. While cosmetic surgery can improve an individual’s self-image, there is limited evidence to suggest that it has a direct impact on personality.  A study published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive SurgeryBottom of Form

had had concluded that other factors including mental status, level of education, type of cosmetic procedure, postoperative healing time, sex, and age play a role in determining the direction and magnitude of psychological change after surgery.   While some psychological changes may occur in self-image, the core personality traits remain the same.   For example–a rational, logical, pragmatic thinker will maintain that thought process regardless of the cosmetic surgery.   FaceCODE technology identifies the phenotype markers that are visible in the images presented and interprets those features correlating them to personality traits and predicted behaviors.
